Shredded Cheese Recall

                            Cheese Recall

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall of shredded cheese produced by Great Lakes Cheese Co. Inc. after discovering possible metal fragments in the product.

The recall — now classified as a “Class II” alert — involves over 1.5 million bags of shredded cheese sold under various store-brand labels at major retailers including Walmart, Target and Aldi, covering 31 U.S. states and Puerto Rico.

Affected varieties include low-moisture part-skim mozzarella, Italian-style, pizza-style, mozzarella-and-provolone blends, and mozzarella-and-parmesan blends.

Officials warn consumers not to eat the recalled cheese, as ingesting metal fragments could cause mouth, throat or internal injuries. Instead, they recommend discarding the product or returning it to the store for a refund.
